Students in Madison chose to forgo their worries about those pesky student loans on Monday morning. More than 12,000 undergraduates shelled out nearly $200 apiece for Wisconsin Badgers football season tickets. The entire allotment sold out in under 2 hours. This is the 20th consecutive season where student section tickets were snapped up in short order. Buyers reported long waits and technical issues with the website where the tickets were sold, some logging on as early as 7AM to get a jump on the 7:30AM start time.
The 2012 undergraduate season ticket sale was the fastest to sell-out in school history, with all 12,300 packages sold in under 45 minutes. 1,700 more tickets in the student section will go on-sale to graduate students in July.
The lucky students who managed these hurdles during Monday’s sale will have access to all seven of the Badgers games at Camp Randall in 2013. Massachusetts is the first team to visit the venue on August 31, with other home games against Tennessee Tech, Purdue, Northwestern, Brigham Young, Indiana, and Penn State to follow.
The Badgers hope to kick-off the second decade of student sell-outs with the same success they enjoyed in 1993, the first year that the entire section was filled for every home game. Darrell Bevell and Brent Moss led the team that year to the best record since 1962, and their first Rose Bowl win.
